Important announcement regarding fall sports practices next week. Goooo Purple!

New Professionals Orientation is underway! We are excited to welcome new faculty to NCSD! Over the next 3 days they will learn about people, program and place. Please join us in offering them a warm welcome!

Students in grades 6-8 will be participating in an independent reading program this year. After students pick a book of interest within the first couple of weeks of school, they will:
· independently read each day for about 40 minutes (could be in class, advisory, study hall, at home)
· write one post-it note per day to capture a note about a reading signpost (more information to come about these)
· write ONE journal entry per week on one of their post-its to “write long” about their ideas (which will receive a grade based on a rubric)
Purpose of independent reading:
· To increase LOVE of books and reading
· To increase reading STAMINA
· To help learn new things and take us to faraway places
· To help become better writer
Hey Middle School Parents - Know what is going on with your child in school!!
Reading at Norwich Middle School is important!! Each grade level will be implementing reading and writing unit of study using the workshop model. This model consists of three parts: a mini-lesson, a workshop, and a debrief. The goal of this model is to support learners in reading and writing independently, while the teacher specifically attends to small group or individual needs to help meet learners at the level they are at and move them ahead!
Ask your child about what they are learning in school - conversation is key to building lifelong learning habits in your young teens.

"Around the World with Disney" packed their bags and headed to France and Australia last week! We tasted French pastries, courtesy of La Maison Blanche, built Eiffel Towers, and learned about pointillism art. We also took a virtual field trip of a coral reef and found Nemo!

Stay and Play began our journey around the world with Disney! We began our travels by creating passports & documenting our travels on a world map. Our first stops were Mexico & India to learn about different customs and cultures and even created some souvenirs for our trip back!

The Middle School's garden club is growing... literally!!! Students were in today checking on the garden and the little friends that thrive in the environment as well. They are are getting their hands dirty and growing some great vegetables in our courtyard!!
