Next Generation Learning Standards
Timelines for Implementing Next Generation Learning Standards
By the completion of this school year, teams throughout the district will have prioritized the Math and ELA Next Generation Standards PreK-12. Secondary social studies and science teams are also scheduled to begin this spring.
The work ahead will help gain clarity with the following:
Identify what students are expected to learn and be able to do by the time they exit a grade level/course
Determine when students have achieved a standard
Interventions (when standards are not achieved)
Vertical alignment
Most importantly, it will greatly assist with the acceleration of student learning in the fall, and it will create alignment with the updated implementation guidelines from SED.

Information on NYS Next Generation Learning Standards
In order to support districts/educators with the transition to full implementation of the New York State (NYS) Next Generation Learning Standards, the State Education Department released the English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics Standards Implementation Roadmap. The Roadmap is a recommended three-year plan that includes goals and activities for stakeholders to raise awareness of, build capacity around, and implement the Next Generation Standards.
The NYS Next Generation Learning Standards were adopted by the Board of Regents in September 2017. The new Standards are the culmination of a two-year process that resulted in substantive changes while maintaining rigor.
