September is Attendance Awareness Month!
This year our message is simple: Here Today, Ready for Tomorrow.
Across the Norwich City School District we are encouraging students to show up every day. When students show up, they grow—academically, socially, and emotionally. Here Today builds confidence, skills, and friendships. Here Today improves reading, writing and math skills, which are the foundation for academic success - enabling our students to be Ready for Tomorrow.
Our district goals remain the same: to improve attendance and reduce chronic absenteeism. But this is not about numbers - it’s about giving your child every opportunity to thrive - today, tomorrow and beyond.
This month we are focusing on Respect in Grades K-5 and one way to show respect for yourself, your teachers and your classmates starts with showing up each day. In the Grades 6-12 we are focusing on Responsibility. Taking responsibility for learning means being present and ready every day.
Strong attendance takes teamwork—here are three ways caregivers can help at home:
Set a routine: Regular bedtime and morning schedule make mornings calmer and easier
Plan ahead: Lay out clothes, back packs and set alarms the night before
Talk about why school matters: Remind your child that each day builds their future.
Together let’s make this the best year yet!
If attendance is a challenge for your child, know that you’re not alone. Our Student Support Team is ready to listen and work with you to find solutions. Feel free to reach out any time.
