Students acquiring a 5 unit sequence in art and music, or technology, or a vocational program may be exempt from the three unit requirement in LOTE. These students must earn one credit in LOTE.

Diploma Types

New York State Local Diploma– awarded to those students identified by the Committee on Special Education. Students must earn 22 credits in specific academic disciplines and earn at least a 55 on required regents exams.

New York State Regents Diploma– awarded to all students who complete at least 22 credits and achieve satisfactory scores on the 5 required Regents exams as detailed in the chart above.

Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation– awarded to students who complete all the course and testing requirements of a Regents Diploma plus the following additional requirements: (a) at least 3 credits in the same Foreign language OR a 5-unit sequence in art, music, or career technical education. (b) Three Regents exams in Mathematics as outlined in the chart above. (c) Two Regents exams in Science. One exam must be Living Environment and the second can be any of the physical Sciences (Earth Science, Chemistry or Physics).

Regents Diploma with Honors– awarded to students who complete all requirements for the Regents diploma and achieve an average of at least 90% on those Regents exams. 

Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation with Honors– awarded to those students who complete all the requirements of the Regents diploma with Advanced Designation and achieve an average of at least 90% on those Regents exams.

Skills and Achievement Commencement Credential– awarded to students identified by CSE who satisfactorily complete the requirements prescribed by the District Committee on Special Education (CSE) for each identified student Individual Education Program (IEP).
