Norwich City School District is proud to announce that Robin Buchman has joined the ranks of several NCSD educators to be approved in the NYS Master Teacher/Counselor Program. Robin Buchman earned her B.A. in Psychology from The College of Staten Island and an M.S. in Childhood Education, focusing on Teaching Students with Disabilities, from Touro College. She co-teaches fifth grade at Perry Browne Intermediate School in Norwich, New York, where she is passionate about supporting students and inspiring their curiosity and love of learning. With a teaching career spanning 22 years, Mrs. Buchman emphasizes hands-on learning experiences and designs lesson plans that help students understand the "whys" behind science and math concepts. While teaching in New York City, she organized and led a community outreach program that brought animals from diverse habitats into schools and community centers. Now, at Norwich Schools, she runs the Healthy Gardens program, which integrates gardening, environmental studies, ELA, and math into activities that encourage healthy habits for students and the environment. Beyond the classroom, Mrs. Buchman and her husband are dedicated to farmland revitalization on their property, working to restore habitats for birds, butterflies, and other wildlife. They also rescue and rehabilitate horses, dogs, cats, and small animals, providing them a loving home. They are parents to two amazing sons who pursued careers in the sciences. As a New York State Master Teacher, Mrs. Buchman looks forward to collaborating with colleagues, inspiring her students through the joy of learning, and deepening her expertise in STEM education. Robin will participate in several years of professional learning as part of the program. Previously, NCSD teachers and counselors Joanne Stafford, Fran Nial, Alison Locke, Cathy Carpenter, Elaina vanderSommen, and Jaclyn Lund , have or are currently representing NCSD in this acclaimed statewide program.
