Principal's Message

Middle School is one of the most AMAZING, and definitely one of the most challenging times in a young person’s life. The growth, excitement, energy, and learning that takes place is by far one of the most meaningful experiences for development of future learning. At Norwich Middle School, we strive to help everyone become a meaningful part of our school community. There is a place for everyone at our school, no matter what interests a student may have.

It is my honor to be a part of this school community, and to lead us through the 21st century. Education has changed so much, even over my 26 years as an educator. It is our mission to provide the best environment for the students of our school to be successful in all they do!! Together, we can make that happen.

We hope that you will download our new Norwich City Schools App in the App Store or Google Playstore, and use our school website and social media to stay informed. We look forward to preparing for a fresh start in the fall and welcoming everyone back!

Here is a little more about me:

Mr. Devine has been an educator for the past 26 years, starting as a Director of Bands in Montgomery, NY for seven years. He followed by moving into administration for the next 18 years, serving roles of Assistant Principal and Principal at schools in New York and Florida. Utilizing his passion for the arts and how they impact a child’s education has been a key point for Mr. Devine throughout his career.

Mr. Devine has earned his Bachelor's Degree in Music Education, Masters Degree in Elementary Education, and Certificate of Advanced Study in School Administration. His focus is always on being a lifetime learner.

An avid supporter of the community, Mr. Devine has been a member of the Arts Integration Board; the College of Education Board at the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee, as well as a founding board member of the North River Prevention Partners in Palmetto, FL. An important aspect of his work focuses on empowering people, teachers, students, parents, and the community, to work toward their best and help improve the community at large.

It is his mission to engage the Norwich Middle School community to being successful in their daily work, and to help students develop skills to be lifelong learners. Setting the foundations for the future and helping students to develop their next steps in life is a highly important goal of Mr. Devine
