Attention Community Members (On behalf of BSA): Cub Scouts is a program within Scouting America that serves BOYS AND GIRLS from K-5 Grades. Cub Scouting aims to prepare youth to grow into self-reliant and dependable adults. They achieve this through hands on activities and adventures focused on: Character Development, Spiritual Growth, Good Citizenship, Sportsmanship and Fitness, Family Understanding, Respectful Relationships, Personal Achievement, Friendly Service, FUN and ADVENTURE! How does Cub Scouting Work? The family is the basis for Cub Scouting. Cub Scouting exists to support your family and help enrich your family time together. Your child’s success in Cub Scouts depends on you. The Cub Scout program takes place at two levels. Your child will become a part of a DEN, a small group of children in the same grade level who usually meet weekly. All DENs make up a PACK. Once a month, the dens, with their families come together at a PACK meeting where Scouts can show off the new skills they have learned and are recognized for the badges they have earned. • Kindergarten – LION, Kindergarteners join the LION DEN. Lions work with their Adult Partner as the Scout grows to understand the world around them. A Parent or guardian is required to participate (and perhaps volunteer as well!) • First Grade – TIGER, First Graders join the TIGER DEN. Tigers work with the Adult Partners and the rest of the den as they explore the world around them. Family is an important emphasis of Tigers. A Parent or guardian is required to participate (and perhaps volunteer as well!) • Second Grade-WOLF, Second Graders join the WOLF DEN. Wolves begin to put emphasis on learning about functioning as a group. • Third Grade-BEAR, Third Graders join the BEAR DEN. Bears spend their time learning more about their community and how they fit into the larger world around them. • Fourth Grade-WEBELO, Fourth Graders join the WEBELO DEN. Concentrates on becoming an Arrow of Light Cub Scout. 4th Graders focus on camping and outdoor activities. • Fifth Grade-ARROW OF LIGHT (The highest award in Cub Scouts) –5th Graders focus on camping and outdoor activities. In the Spring of the Scout’s 5th Grade year, they graduate from Cub Scouts to Scouting America! They are now a full-time Scout! More adventures…. Cub Adventure Weekends, Cub Scout Resident Camp, Cub Scout Day Camp!
