Our 6th grade scientists have been hard at work creating their own lab procedures. Students first conducted a lab where they looked at Brine Shrimp (sea monkey's) under a microscope and fed them yeast! They were then tasked with creating a lab procedure for the Brine Shrimp lab that an alien could follow...aka they had to use specific details. Students created a two rough drafts before they finally turned their procedure into an informative poster. Enjoy some pictures of their work!

High School Technology: The Draft & Design classes have been working on a 4-Phase project to design and build cardboard boats! Phase 1 required students to work in pairs to draw concept sketches and a boat design that met specified design criteria and constraints. Phase 2, which has been ongoing this week, saw students put into larger teams to select a design and then build a scale model of the boat for water and displacement weight testing. Teams are doing a great job so far! Phase 3 will begin next week, with students starting to make their full size boats. Phase 4 will be the culmination of this project, and will see students testing and time-trialing their completed boats in the swimming pool! We are expecting to see the full spectrum of performance - from The Mayflower to Titanic!!

High School Technology: The Project Lead The Way - Civil Engineering and Architecture class spent this week being introduced to Land Surveying. After some classroom work on foundational theory, and some basic survey equipment demonstrations and practice, we today went outside to practice Differential Leveling! It stopped raining just long enough for the students to successfully complete measurements and calculations for elevation and distance. They did a great job! Next, we will analyze the student data before going outside again next week to complete a Closed Loop Survey, weather permitting!

High School Technology: The Project Lead The Way - Introduction to Engineering Design class spent this week learning about Mechanical Motion (Kinematics). Students first built mechanical assemblies out of VEX IQ parts, before analyzing motion and and the relationship between moving parts. The class has now moved into CAD software to model these assemblies and further analyze mechanical motion. A great job so far! Next steps are to design and build cams, before using them as component parts of an Automata project!
