The Middle School is excited to welcome Mr. Karl Gee to the NMS Family!!
Mr. Gee is excited to join Norwich Middle School teaching Technology Education. As a Technology Education teacher, he believes every student deserves the opportunity to learn through hands-on problem-based activities that encourage growth, especially in STEM and career skills. His experience has given him the opportunity to teach students from 2nd through 12th grade in a wide range of classes including engineering, communications, materials processing, robotics, and other technology-related subjects during the course of my 27-year teaching career.
He graduated from Millersville University in Pennsylvania with his bachelor’s degree in Technology Education and a minor in Technical Theater. He then earned my master’s degree in Technology Education at SUNY Oswego. He has enjoyed using his theater background working as an actor and craftsman at the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire and building sets for many professional and school theater productions.
Last year he also coached an eSports team and we placed in the top four in the New York State PlayVs league in both the fall and spring seasons playing Rocket League.

The last leg of our trip took us to China & the Polynesian Islands. We celebrated the Lantern Festival, learned Chinese words, and created our very own scrolls. We also built our own boats to sail in the Pacific Ocean before we packed our bags and headed home! Until next time!

This week's travels took our Stay & Play students around the world to Tanzania and Columbia. We loved exploring the savannah and building our own Ndebele huts. We were even able to participate in the Festival of Flowers and made our very own flowers to take back home with us!

School is getting closer - check out some Getting Started Middle School reminders. Can't wait to see you all on September 8th for the first day of school!!

Students in grades 6-8 will be participating in an independent reading program this year. After students pick a book of interest within the first couple of weeks of school, they will:
· independently read each day for about 40 minutes (could be in class, advisory, study hall, at home)
· write one post-it note per day to capture a note about a reading signpost (more information to come about these)
· write ONE journal entry per week on one of their post-its to “write long” about their ideas (which will receive a grade based on a rubric)
Purpose of independent reading:
· To increase LOVE of books and reading
· To increase reading STAMINA
· To help learn new things and take us to faraway places
· To help become better writer

Hey Middle School Parents - Know what is going on with your child in school!!
Reading at Norwich Middle School is important!! Each grade level will be implementing reading and writing unit of study using the workshop model. This model consists of three parts: a mini-lesson, a workshop, and a debrief. The goal of this model is to support learners in reading and writing independently, while the teacher specifically attends to small group or individual needs to help meet learners at the level they are at and move them ahead!
Ask your child about what they are learning in school - conversation is key to building lifelong learning habits in your young teens.

NCSD is hiring Instructional and Support Staff immediately! We offer competitive pay, great health, dental & retirement benefits, and growth opportunities. Please consider the opportunities currently available here: https://www.norwichcsd.org/page/job-opportunities
