High School Technology:
The Project Lead The Way - Civil Engineering & Architecture (Construction Systems) Class spent December starting the 'Affordable Home' project. Students first learned about the fundamentals of home design, before focusing on affordable and efficient construction methods. They then worked together to complete 'client surveys' before using bubble diagrams and hand-drawn floor plans to lay out their Affordable Home designs. Continuing in January, students will complete their design in CAD software, learn how to include essential services (power, water, sewage etc), and also how to make drainage and wastewater runoff calculations to complete this project.

High School Technology:
The Project Lead The Way - Introduction to Engineering Design class rode into the Holidays completing a project on Product Improvement. Students were given a problem to re-design and build a prototype of a single packaging box for their client that could hold different combinations and sizes of muffins, cupcakes and tarts. Students worked in small teams and the project confirmed their teamwork and communication skills, as well as their competence in design and prototype building. Some excellent ideas and prototypes were produced!

High School Technology:
Final post with Draft & Design Classes project examples!

High School Technology:
Some more examples of the excellent projects completed by the Draft & Design classes.

High School Technology:
The Draft & Design classes spent 4 weeks working on a 'design and make' project before the Holidays. Many students made presents for family and friends, so no posts were made before the Holidays to ensure there were no spoilers!
Students were given some choices of what to design and make, including wooden cutting boards, jewelry or a 'maker's choice'. As part of this project, students also learned how to safely and responsibly operate essential shop tools and equipment. The students displayed some superb design and making skills. Congratulations, and I hope that family and friends who were lucky enough to receive a handmade gift, loved them?!
