Financial Aid Information - Class of 2024
Governor Hochul is encouraging all seniors to complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).
"Last year, New York’s high school students left over $200 million in federal aid unclaimed by not filling out the FAFSA. The FAFSA is free, and opens the door to federal and state aid, including Tuition Assistance Program and Excelsior Scholarship, as well as other college funding awards."
Students and their families are encouraged to go to hesc.ny.gov/fafsaready to learn about events and informational services in their community. Students can also follow #FAFSAReady to hear from current college students.
A variety of links to support the completion of the FAFSA can be found in the Class of 2024 Google Classoom. They will also be linked on our Counseling page and newsletter later today. There is also a link to the video from our Financial Aid Night we had this past fall.
You can also reach out to the Financial Aid office of the college you have applied to, accepted an offer for, or are considering attending for more information that directly pertains to that institution.

We would like to recognize our top senior of the Class of 2024, our Valedictorian. Gigi Safavizadeh will attend Bryn Mawr College in the fall and is interested in majoring in International Affairs or History and minoring in Dance. She was in the NHS musicals, choreographed the NMS musicals, and was in concert band and orchestra, choir, jazz band, chamber orchestra, madrigal choir, AND participated in several all counties and NYSSMA solo festivals. She is also a member of the National Honors Society and is thrilled with being the class of 2024’s valedictorian! Her favorite memories are the countless hours spent in Mr. Bernstein’s class. As a group of just five honors students, she will miss the connections she made with classmates and the endless laughter shared together.

NCSD is thrilled to introduce our new School Resource Officer, Nick Mooney. Officer Mooney joined NCSD in April and commenced training with our School Safety Officer, Wes Mills, alongside Officer Brandon Clarke. Officer Clarke, who has served as our School Resource Officer, will be retiring at the end of April. The entire NCSD community extends its heartfelt gratitude to Officer Clarke for his dedicated service to our organization.
Officer Mooney is a Norwich native and a graduate of NCSD. He earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Nazareth College in Rochester, NY. Following graduation, Officer Mooney returned to Norwich and assumed the role of Aquatics Director at the YMCA before joining the City of Norwich Police Department in 2020. He holds certification as a Child Forensic Interviewer and eagerly anticipates advancing his training as a Juvenile Officer/School Resource Officer in August.
When asked about choosing Norwich, Officer Mooney expressed that he has always enjoyed living in Norwich. With most of his family residing here, he believes it is an ideal place to raise a family. He is passionate about working with children and views this role as an opportunity to positively influence students’ lives. In addition, Officer Mooney is committed to enhancing safety protocols and emergency response plans.
Regarding the School Resource Officer’s relationship with the school and community, Officer Mooney emphasized, “I am a firm believer that being involved in your community is a great way to grow up. Luckily, Norwich boasts a lot of different options when it comes to community engagement. I plan on reaching out to the school’s clubs and sports teams to support the students in their interests.”
Officer Mooney eagerly anticipates connecting with our students. “I want to build positive relationships and demonstrate the importance of integrity. I believe that through support and guidance it will help kids promote positive behavior and facilitate a good school experience.”
Please join us in extending a warm welcome to Officer Mooney.
