Principals' Message

Welcome back! We hope this message finds you well and eager for the start of the 2019-2020 school year! We are excited to be working with you to ensure a successful school year for all of our students!  It is our hope that each day students at NHS are part of a safe and intellectually challenging environment that empowers them to become innovative thinkers, creative problem solvers and responsible citizens who are prepared to thrive both at our high school as well as in our greater community.  Our faculty and staff are here to set high expectations for students and provide them with the appropriate level of support to achieve success.

Students are encouraged to pursue academic excellence, become involved in extracurricular activities and contribute to that special spirit at NHS that we call purple pride.  We expect our students to make positive decisions, look for the good in others and make a personal commitment to achieve success as they become part of the Tornado legacy. We rely on the connections we have developed with students, parents and community members to promote this growth.  Working in collaboration, we are confident that we can all achieve greatness!

As the first day of school rapidly approaches, we would like to communicate some important information that will keep you up to date and create a positive start to what we expect will be an outstanding year.

  • * We will be hosting a Meet and Greet for all students and their parents on Wednesday, September 4th, from 1:00-3:00pm.  During this time, students and their families will be able to meet their teachers, walk through their schedule, and prepare their lockers. We encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to make connections with our teaching staff.
  • * Classes begin Thursday, September 5th.  Our academic day starts at 7:35am and ends at 2:11pm.
  • * For parents who wish to drop off students, our doors will be open at 7:10am.  All students who are dropped off should enter through the main door.
  • * Breakfast is served beginning at 7:10 in the cafeteria and is free for everyone.  All students must consume food and beverages in the cafeteria and, due to the presence of students with severe allergies, may not eat breakfast in the hallways.

Nelson Mandela said that “education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”  By working together as we seek to deepen the meaning of our lives, we are confident that every student at Norwich High School has the power within them to become a compelling source of change in our world.  We are honored to be on this journey with you and look forward to seeing you next week!
