Effective February 1st, 2021, High Risk Sports will be able to begin in New York State with approval from the local health departments.  This is great news for our student athletes.  Norwich Athletics will be working with district administration, NYSPHSAA, Section IV Athletics, and the Southern Tier Athletic Conference in the upcoming days to prepare a safe comprehensive plan if permitted following all protocols for the return of High Risk Athletics.  More information will be forthcoming in the upcoming days.

Norwich Athletics is excited to announce the reopening of conditioning activities at the Norwich City School District for NCSD students. Beginning Monday, November 30, and running until interscholastic sports begin on January 4th, our facilities will be open with the focus of providing equitable opportunity in the area of conditioning and athletic training for all.  Athletic programs will take priority for use of our facilities; however, this will not limit others from using them. Scheduling facility space will be contingent on appropriate and substantial supervision and adherence to safety requirements governed by the NYSDoH.  A COVID-19 Waiver is required to ensure that all athletes and parents of athletes are aware of the preventative measures which must be practiced to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and the understanding that participation could increase your risk of contracting the coronavirus. Use the link that follows to open the COVID-19 Waiver Form:

In order to use the facilities, supervising adults and student athletes must comply with the following.

  • Student Athletes must sign the attached waiver.
  • Supervising adult must maintain accurate attendance to each scheduled session.
  • Adherence to all COVID-19 safety guidelines (review of guidelines will occur prior to event scheduling).
  • No physical person to person contact at any scheduled activity.
  • Face coverings must be worn at all times.
  • Social Distancing must occur where applicable.
  • Maximum of 15 students when using an indoor facility per session including supervising adult.  Outdoor facility use will require conversation with Athletic Coordinator, Rich Turnbull.
  • Fitness room usage requires supervision of a certified coach.
Norwich Athletics Director, Rich Turnbull, and a team of Norwich staff, coaches, and athletes have joined together to bring back classic games to our Tornado fans!  We are excited to introduce a new YouTube Channel dedicated to our athletics program.  Over the years, there have been some memorable games that have left an unforgettable mark in Tornado history.  With COVID-19 putting our sports seasons on pause, we will attempt to fill that void with a special collection of classic games to become available over the next several weeks.

Use this "Read More" link for Mr. Turnbull's message to Norwich athletes, families, and Tornado sports fans!

A press release from the Southern Tier Athletic Conference (STAC) announces the postponed of athletics until January.  With student health and safety at the forefront of discussions, STAC agreed to postpone all league play and follow the NYSPHSAA condensed fall, winter and spring seasons beginning January 4, 2021.  For more information, read the press release dated September 13, 2020, by clicking on the link that follows.
