Geislinger wins title at Windsor Christmas Tournament Tornado Wins Two Titles at Windsor Wrestling Tournament

The Purple Tornado's varsity wresting team traveled over the break to compete in the Windsor Christmas Tournament. Norwich seniors, Dante Geislinger and Mikey Squires, returned to the mats for the annual tournament as top seeds in their respective classes.

Geislinger captured the title in the 113-pound class. This year’s win makes Geislinger a three-time champion at the event. Squires earned his way to a first place title in the 170-pound class, and he was also awarded the Windsor Tournament "Most Outstanding Wrestler" Award.

Overall team standings put the Purple Tornado in 4th place at the tournament and tied with teams from Chenango Forks and Indian River. Come and support the team at the next home event on January 8 when the Tornado takes on Chenango Forks (7pm in the NHS Gym). Use the Schedule Galaxy link that follows for updated schedule info:

Varsity Boys Basketball Team Wins Championship at UV Holiday Tournament Boys Win Championship in UV Basketball Tournament
During the winter break, the varsity boys basketball team competed in the two-day Holiday Tournament hosted by Unadilla Valley High School. The Purple Tornado defeated Vestal in the first round of the tournament with a score of 67-60. The boys returned to dominate throughout the championship game against Sherburne-Earlville and took the win with a final score of 73-54. Thomas Flanagan and MVP Carson Maynard were selected for the All Tournament Team. 
Norwich Launches New Format for Sports Signups -- FamilyID
Family ID
NHS is proud to announce FamilyID, a new program for signing up for sports and submitting health forms.  FamilyID will replace the formerly used Purple Packet.  Review the parent letter below to learn more details about registering for sports and setting up an account for FamilyID.   
NHS will be using this program for the upcoming winter sports season.  Student athletes will use the online platform to complete the following:
* signup for sports
* submit health form(s)
* complete the school contract
* complete the sports interview

ScheduleGalaxy is now the provider for the Norwich School District for their athletics program web-based scheduling system. ScheduleGalaxy enhances both the scheduling process and public access to contest information.

ScheduleGalaxy provides:
- Quick public access to team schedules, free from commercial advertisement
- Ability to receive email alerts for any schedule changes
- Directions to contests from your current location to the exact game location via Google maps
- View schedules, directions and schedule changes from either your computer or smart phone

To access a team schedule, click on:  ScheduleGalaxy.  (This link can also be found on the right side of this page now, and it will remain there after this article becomes outdated.)  Specific instructions for navigating ScheduleGalaxy can be found by clicking on the Read More Link below.

2018 Sports Hall of Fame Induction
The Eighth Annual Induction Ceremony for the Norwich Sports Hall of Fame will take place on Saturday, October 13.  NHS will honor will induct former football coach, John Pluta, and former athletes Don Chirlin, Pat Quinn, and Tom Seary.  The 1948 tennis team, coached by Charlie Miers, will also be inducted and honored for their undefeated season; the award will be accepted by former players Dick Darling and Charles Stewart.   

The 2018 Hall of Fame Induction will begin with a reception at 5:30 pm, and a dinner and the Induction Ceremony will follow. Read more about all of the inductees by clicking on the link that follows to the complete 2018 Induction Program.

Physical Education
The physical education staff has revamped its grading system. Students in grades K-12 will be represented on a scale of 1 to 4. Grading is tied directly to New York State learning standards 1, 2 and 3.
