Principal's Message

Thank you, from all of us!

As the school year draws to a close, we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for affording us the privilege of working with you and your child. It is an honor being on this educational journey with you and we thank you every day for trusting us with your children. We have many things to celebrate as we close out the year!

Collectively across the district, we have focused on resilience and relationships. The challenges that our students face in the areas of social and emotional wellness have a definitive impact on the structure and programming we create to increase academic outcomes. Academic success, in many cases, hinges on our ability to be responsive to the needs presented to us on a daily basis.

We have made great strides in our ability to meet these needs, both with students and staff, at their individual entry point. Our staff has become more trauma-informed and has worked diligently on teaching the whole child and building relationships with students. We have watched as faculty, staff, students and parents work together to go above and beyond to create an environment where all students experience success. Balancing the social and emotional needs with academic needs is now, more than ever, the art of teaching.

We are committed to teaching and nurturing the whole child while also celebrating our successes along the way. We have recognized students for their leadership and character traits, enjoyed many opportunities for hands-on learning in the classroom, had an infusion of technology in the classroom, and have integrated restorative practices within our interactions. Recognizing that our students are the reason behind the decisions that we make drives our focus day in and day out.

It was motivational speaker and educator Rita Pierson who said, “Every child deserves a champion; an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection and insists that they become the best they can possibly be.” This is why building relationships is our primary focus.

We would like to thank everyone for their willingness to look at situations through a new lens, for their openness and vulnerability, and, above all else, for placing student needs at the forefront of all of our decision making. We are truly proud to be part of this extraordinary learning community we call home – the Norwich City School District.

Thank you to our community for your continued support as we take on, in our opinion, the most important job in the world – educating our youth.
