Dignity for All Students Act
Perry Browne students have the right to attend school in a safe, welcoming, considerate, and caring environment. The goal of The Dignity for All Students Act is to create a safe and supportive school climate where students can learn and focus, rather than fear being discriminated against and/or verbally and/or physically harassed. DASA prohibits the harassment and discrimination of students over a period of time by students and by school personnel. Bullying and hazing are forms of harassment and discrimination.
DASA defines harassment as ...
The creation of a hostile environment over a period of time by:
* conduct
* verbal threats
* intimidation
* abuse
The hostile environment could be expected to substantially interfere with:
* educational performance, opportunities or benefits
* mental, emotional or physical well-being
The hostile environment also could reasonably be expected to:
* cause a student to fear for his/her physical safety
This includes, but is not limited to, intimidation based on a person’s actual or perceived:
* color
* disability
* ethnic group
* gender
* national origin
* race
* religion
* religious practice
* sexual orientation
* weight
School counselors serve as DASA Coordinators for Perry Browne.
