Robotics Team Competition

The Robotics Team spent 3 days competing at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York.  T-Rx 145 is made up of students from Norwich, Unadilla Valley, Sherburne-Earlville, and Gilbertsville, and they did a great job together in the NY Tech Valley Regional Competition!

Nintendo Demonstration On Friday March 3rd Nintendo released there latest revolutionary Gaming console the “ Nintendo Switch.” NHS student Steven King along with NHS At-Risk coordinator Mr. Genung teamed together to put on a Nintendo gaming demonstration for a select number of NHS students. Students were able to play Zelda “Breath of the Wild.” This new gaming console is aimed at a wider demographic of video game players through the multiple modes of use, while retaining Nintendo's hardware uniqueness and innovation. MyState MyPlate Challenge

Congratulations to our MyPlate MyState Competition Winners! Seventh graders from NMS participated in Chobani's competition to make the tastiest, nutritious recipes using Chobani yogurt as an ingredient. Chobani announced the top five finalists, and the entire 7th grade was able to join the celebration. Students got to hear from Dr. Robert Post, currently the Senior Director of the Chobani Nutrition Center, and formerly a nutrition advisor to the White House and the creator of the MyPlate nutrition guide. Students were treated to Chobani "drinks" and sunglasses! This was a great experience for our students to learn about nutrition and healthy eating habits.


Boys Basketball Team Clinches Sectional Title

Congratulations to the boys basketball team for winning the Class B Sectional Championships!  Norwich
defeated Waverly 49-35 for the Section IV division.  The boys will play Westhill at 1:00 on Saturday, March 11, in the SRC Arena in Syracuse.

The Norwich Ski & Board Club is having a fantastic season on the slopes! There are 22 active members in the club that have come out for six Saturdays in a row. A huge and special thank you is extended to the Norwich City Schools Transportation Department for bringing the club to Greek Peak each and every week!

Reality Check Students Travel to Albany

On Wednesday, February 7, NHS students joined Rhett Genung, NHS At-Risk Coordinator, and attended Legislative Day in the Empire State Plaza’s Capitol Building and Concourse. During Legislative Day, NHS Reality Check (RC) students got a unique and personal opportunity to speak, meet and educate lawmakers on the value of New York State Tobacco Control Programs (TCPs) and the ever-increasing support for tobacco-control policies at the local level.  They were extremely honored and fortunate enough to meet with Assemblymen Cliff Crouch, Senator Seward and Senator Fred Akshar.

NMS Spelling Bee

Congratulations to Elspeth Hunter, the winner of the 2017 Norwich Middle School’s Spelling Bee! Elspeth successfully spelled words like “cavalcade,” “burglarious,” and “vulpine,” and won the bee in the 26th round of competition with the word “Honolulu.”

As Spelling Champion, Elspeth will now represent NMS at the Daily Star’s Regional Spelling Bee in Oneonta in March. She will have a chance to win a trip to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington DC. Great job to Elspeth and the other 14 brave MS participants of the spelling bee!

Chenango All-County Winter Festival Students performed at the Chenango All-county Winter Festival on Saturday, January 21. Norwich had 40 musicians participating in the event which featured Junior Chorus, Senior Chorus, Elementary Band and Jazz Ensemble. Read More...
